Queer CUNY
Supporting LGBTQIA+ Students of New York City
Introduction
Queer CUNY is an inter-university alliance for CUNY and other NYC-area LGBTQ students, alumni, faculty, staff, and our allies in the community around issues that affect us, to combat homophobia and intolerance, and to foster networking and inter-university social, academic, and activist events and collaborations.
Campus Resource Project
We are attempting to compile as much information about CUNY and other NYC area student clubs and school policies to provide a resource for current and prospective students, and for helping clubs connect and network with clubs at other area schools.
This project was undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was difficult to obtain current information, particularly about club room locations. Many events and programs are being held instead through video conference platforms; information available through provided links.
We've researched school policies about restrooms (and other facilities such as locker rooms). Under NYC human rights law, all individuals have the right to use any single sex facility consistent with their gender identity or expression. We wanted to present how well each school treats this law in terms of active, affirmative policy. We used a secondary resource, https://www.refugerestrooms.org/ (also available as a mobile app) to find gender inclusive restroom options. If you feel uncomfortable using an on-campus restroom, there may be other off-campus options nearby.
We've also researched policies and procedures for changing your name or gender, both for legal and extralegal reasons. If the school has not outlined a policy or we could not find it online, we have provided contact information for the registrar's office.
